As a captain in the Merchant Marines, my father's primary objective was to get ship, cargo, and crew from point A to B intact. The shipping companies that he worked for also required him to make sure the ship, crew, and cargo were properly insured. After twenty plus years he took a landlocked position as a stevedore foreman for the Panama Canal and was responsible for all the dock workers, cargo, and....insurance. Growing up, he always hinted that I should consider pursuing the cargo insurance field. Years passed, I joined the Merchant Marines, did that for over a year, came home, and two months later, I got drafted and spent three years in the service. When I got out, I went to college and took a part time job...in the AAA insurance department.

I eventually got my Florida All Lines Insurance License and over the next ten years, worked for a number of big named companies. I always felt held back working for someone else, so I opened my own little storefront here in Deland back in 1987 and have remained at the same location providing auto insurance and other products to local and surrounding communities.
